Hi, I'm Izalixe. I live in Lévis, Québec, Canada.
I've been publishing zines since 1998.
You may remember me from back in the day, namely with zines such as "Ingleside News", "Orange & Blue", and the well-known inaugural issue of "Girl w/Cat", which told of the grief & recovery following the passing of my beloved cat, Malenikiy, in 2004.
I have since changed the name of my main perzine to "The Happy Loner", have published different one-offs telling mostly stories & life adventures (namely "Meetings" & "MOIST GIRL DIARY") & I am working on a zine-world-focussed zine in the coming months. I also intend to publish future issues of "Girl w/Cat", despite the late passing of my wonderful Norwegian Forest Cat, Aimé. I WILL get another cat (probably a Norwegian as well)*EDIT*- I got Merri now !! Finding the right cat companion can be a hard task, & I want to take time to grieve; but being without a feline sidekick does not feel like being myself !
An outcast by choice & by fate, & I dont fit much anywhere in society, which is quite alright with me. Even though I have a husband and have had life partners-lovers-husbands for over a decade, my partners are also of the solitary inclination, which is perfect as we are independent, loyal nomads who enjoy our own projects & time alone, as well as being together when the stars align, to truly enjoy our time together.
In the zine scene though, I feel right at home, and I'm happy to have found something that I enjoy doing so much, at which I can say honestly I am realistically good at, & that allowed me to "meet", at least on paper or electronically, so many like-mided or otherwise very cool people.
A solitaire by nature, my main perzine is called "The Happy Loner". I do re-assure you : although I love being free and doing stuff by myself, I have warmed up to friends and society over time and I'm not as savage as it may sound. Although I will always remain a wild soul, an eccentric, a proud marginal & a free spirit, I have over time come to meet enough good people along my way that I try to appreciate social situations & events for the good experiences they can bring me, & I try to be better at interacting & communicating with the people around me.

I used to be pretty widely known under the moniker of Iza Straightshooter.
The nickname was given to me by my friend Stéphane, whom you can read about in "Meetings #1". It came from the fact that I am a very direct, straightforward, sometimes harsh person. I am honest, I am authentic. No doubt about it.
I am proud of that fact, but I came to realize that there is also a bad side to this : a shot of whiskey may be an enjoyable burn, but a splash of sulphuric acid, not so much. I came to realize I could hurt people badly with my words, and I began to resent the "shooting" of (verbal) bullets associated with such a pen name. I also loathe all firearms, as I consider them the weapons of cowards, so that was another association I didn't wish to see next to my name. I'd rather see myself as someone shooting arrows through hearts, in a well-meaning, caring, though powerful and sometimes core-shaking manner. Which is why I chose to stick with the "straightness" of the arrow, and the clarity of the "heart".
I turned Iza into Izalixe because I think 5 syllables sound better than 4. I've also been known by other pen names before, including Izalice Blue, Isa Orange, Isabelle_is_a_belle, Iza Bourret, Isabelle B, Isabelle the MOISTgirl...
As you can see, I've always kept a pen name very close to my real one, with the radical of my real first name attached.
It was always important for me to remain transparent & true to myself, even though I evolved a lot through the years, both in look and thought, thus feeling the need to adapt my "name" to fit my personality to a "t".
By all means, always feel free to call me Iza. That's what all my friends call me.

I drink tea in insane amounts, have a huge male Norwegian Forest Cat named Aimé, I live in Lévis, Québec, Canada & my first language is french. I use IBM Selectric II typewriters ; these heavy, loud, elegant, indestructible beasts are just the best machines man ever built. I am an avid train travel enthusiast, a former Vancouver West End Belle, a dedicated paper diarist, I can take hundreds of photographs in one day and I absolutely ADORE postal mail.
BY ALL MEANS, please write. I always write back.
Besides the proverbial thorns on the rose, I am incredibly friendly ...
