MOIST GIRL DIARY sure is a weird sounding title for a zine, and normally, I am way too much of a prude / classic / old-school person to use such a moniker. The thing is, this is not a steamy memoir about ... whatever you thought it was about (!!)... I just happened to be a really big fan of a canadian rock band aptly called.... MOIST.
In January of 1997, I made a crazy dream come true (& a lot of people exclaimed, unexplainably to me, "we're not in the '60s anymore!"... to which I reply, first of, I wasn't even born in the '60s, and most importantly, why should I care what you think!!) when I decided to do something most people only see in movies : to go on the road & follow my favourite band of all-time on tour. Not any tour : a pan-canadian tour, in the middle of a really cold winter (remember when we used to still have REAL Canadian winters? -30°C winter & all)... I travelled by train, had a few mishaps, saw great rock shows, went backstage, made new friends, learned a thing or two & had a TON OF FUN!!!
Presented in the form of a diary memoir, these are direct excerpts from my (french-language) paper diary that I translated for your enjoyment, with photos & mementos from the trip. What is even more amazing is that after a 13-year hiatus, the band has just re-formed, put out a new CD & is playing shows again ! Issue #2 & the following will deal with the band's comeback & my reaction to it, their latest shows, new album, the changes in band member line-up, etc! Dont miss it if you are a MOIST fan or if you just like a great story !
